How we calculate the portion
We start from resting energy (RER = 70 × weight in kg0.75) and multiply it by a factor for his life stage and activity, as recommended by the NRC and WSAVA. Then we divide by the calories in each recipe, which we calculate from its ingredients.
It is a starting point: every dog is different. Weigh him every two weeks and keep an eye on his figure; if he gains weight, cut back by 10 %; if he loses weight without trying, increase by 10 %. We explain it with examples in how much should my dog eat.

How much homemade food should a 20 kg (44 lb) dog eat?
A neutered 20 kg (44 lb) adult dog needs about 1,060 kcal a day. With a typical recipe of 120-140 kcal per 100 g, that is between 750 and 900 g (1.7 to 2 lb) a day, split into two meals. The calculator gives you the exact figure for each recipe.
