What a good homemade meal looks like
As a guide, by weight: around half animal protein (meat, fish or egg), a quarter cooked carbohydrate (rice, sweet potato, potato, oats or quinoa) and the rest vegetables. On top of that, a calcium source and some omega-3 (oily fish or salmon oil).
Batch-cook on Sunday, divide it into containers by day and freeze whatever you will not use in the next three days. Always thaw in the fridge.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best thing to put in homemade dog food?
A lean meat (chicken, turkey, beef, rabbit or fish), a cooked carbohydrate such as rice or sweet potato, vegetables such as zucchini, carrot or green beans, a calcium source and a little omega-3-rich oil. And always without salt, onion, garlic or spices.
How long does homemade dog food last in the fridge?
Three days in a closed container. For longer, freeze it in portions: it keeps well for up to three months. Thaw it in the fridge and serve it warm, never reheated more than once.
